hear me roar.

in life abundant. Tags: five-minute friday
out like a lion, in like a lamb. oh, beautiful lamb of god.
my spirit has been roaring lately. it roars at injustice. it roars at abuse. it roars when my voice is smothered or taken away.
it rumbles quietly, from the deep, deep, deepest parts within.
like a wild animal, i roar when i can’t have it my way or when i want this but know i need that instead.
and i consider i am woman, hear me roar and i love this because, yes. this. i can roar kindly, not aggressively. i can roar in peace, not in defense or anger. lord, teach me.
even so, a ‘roar’ is a battle cry. it’s not nice or pretty or kind. it intimidates in the right ways. it is loud and about freedom. it screams ‘no more’. don’t hold back. let it out. hear you roar.
so, yes. hear me roar.
and i hear the roar of the lion, the great Lion of Judah, who roars to protect his own.
i have this image of him now – so grand, so ginormous and majestic, and i am beneath his paw. not oppressed, but protected.
and i know this is my Father, the one i trust who guards and will not allow harm nor foul. i am safe in the arms of The Great Lion, who is about both peace and justice, who prowls about quietly and fearlessly.
and this is the roar, the roar of The Lion in me.
every friday, i link up with other bloggers over the gypsy mama’s house for five-minute friday. the rules are: just write, without edit or filter. as a practice, it taps into my creative writing, which i love to do.
my one suggestion is that you write before you read so that your mind & heart are fully free to speak.
as always, if you don’t have a space of your own to participate, you are welcome to utilize a comment space here.
today’s prompt: roar.

Ok so now I can’t get Helen Reddy out of my head!
But I love your post and yours is the first I’ve read (being right before me) and I can’t wait to see how we’ve all treated this topic. Lord, teach us to roar in grace.
Blessings,
Felecia

feel like my roar has been more like a bitchy kitty meow lately, but the roar is down in there, for sure.

What power there can be in a roar! I especially love your analogy to the Great Lion. We’re safe to roar in Him. Love reading what you write, friend!
Jan 06, 2012 @ 09:38:49
yes! so true.
thank you, sarah!

Yeah, I thought Helen Reddy, too! But that’s not the kind of roaring you’re talking about. Love sometimes roars, protection and warning. Thank you.
Thank you also for your suggestion at the end, to “write before you read so that your mind & heart are fully free to speak.” God bless.

yes. thank you for that, sylvia. sometimes readers make better sense of my words than i do – our roars are intentional, with purpose, even if they scream wild, it is for reason. so good.

There is beauty in that roar when it comes from that place. May it always be so.

love you.

Wonderful post! I love your thought here:
“i consider i am woman, hear me roar and i love this because, yes. this. i can roar kindly, not aggressively. i can roar in peace, not in defense or anger. lord, teach me.”
How absolutely true!
Have a wonderful day…

We get bold when we know Aslan is on the move.
Jan 06, 2012 @ 10:57:59
I said on Amy’s page that I was picturing Aslan as I wrote this but can’t remember him roaring and didn’t want to get sidetracked talking about a lion when we’re supposed to be talking about a roar.
So, I pretty much love that you said this. Because…yeh.

If I remember correctly there were a few times where Aslan roared, maybe not in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but in the other books He roars. Definitely. Love you friend.
Jan 06, 2012 @ 12:54:32
i don’t even know what i’m talking about, now that i think about it – i haven’t read any of them and i’ve only seen a part of the lion, the witch & the wardrobe. so just forget i said anything at all. carry on. nothing to see here, friends.

“i can roar kindly, not aggressively. i can roar in peace, not in defense or anger. lord, teach me.”
I love this. I pray I will learn to roar kindly and in peace, not aggressively, and not in defense or anger. I want to roar at injustice and cruelty.
Beautiful post.

Yes: “teach me Lord.” needed that today. Thanks!
